MY WARRIOR'S HEARTWritten Sept 10th 2000By Andy Skuse andy1 at rainycitynights.com |

Kneeling in the tall grass
Of a wind-swept field
The sun beats down on my back
The breezes calm
My warrior's heart
As I await the signal to attack
My master stares up at my god
Unblinking
Unhurried by the light
The rain-bringer spirits
Eye me in silence
As I prepare my body for the fight
In the valley below
The battle begins
And my heart begins to race
With sword held high
I run for my life
In to that crowded space
Angry voices
Fill the air
Metal clashes with stone
The armies meet
But neither takes ground
As words cut straight to the bone
The debate will rage on
Long after I'm gone
Too many thoughts to control
One master have I
Yet I serve under others
My body but not my soul
My warrior's heart
Is free to run
When my will is unchained by routine
I long for the days
Of a momentary truce
When my masters agree to convene
I'll lie in the grass
And stare at the sky
And wish my masters could see
That the earth is my true master
The sun is our god
And my warrior's heart is still free
