Thunder

In my head the thunder rolls
I have decisions to make
Count the seconds...1...2...3...
Is it getting closer or going away?

Faces change and smiles fade
Laughter echoes with a doppler effect
The snap then pause while I wait
The electricity builds and builds

Drowning out the lion's roar
The Serengeti welcomes you
But dry for so long and suddenly wet
Could I drown as I die of thirst?

Shadows swish among the trees
The dying light extends their arms
Fallen leaves still dance below
Dead puppets to a breeze

Stabbing downward into the ground
My thoughts rain upon my brow
Cold and wet I look away
The silver lining is not there this time

I don't reply when you call my name
Your voice is swept away
The dark clouds fly but I'm not concerned
I'm oblivious to the wind

The calm after the storm makes me smile
The distant quiet it leaves behind
Dark towers fill the eastern sky yet the sun still shines
The anger is somewhere else now

Time to move on, to climb out of the eye
Hopefully I'll find what I seek
The ground hardens after the rain
My steps will learn to resonate again
