Each drop that falls is unlike the rest
And each drop that falls must face its own test
But each drop still falls from clouds in the west
And each drop will splash to combine with the rest
Skies become gray and rumble overhead
Uninvited, unannounced, from the storm the sun fled
Precious cargo or burden? The clouds open up
To moisten the ground and fill barrels up
The clouds will roll on traveling due east
Misting high treetops and shrouding low peaks
Until they leave us and the land far behind
To face their own test among their own kind
Each drop that falls is unlike the rest
And each drop that falls must face its own test
But each drop still falls from clouds in the west
And each drop will splash to combine with the rest
The sea welcomes all with its wide blue arms
Neither smiling nor crying yet not without charms
Its rhythm and will the clouds must obey
Pushed by the wind off and on every day
The stars overhead and blue darkness below
The silence at night and the moon's rippled glow
True sailors need but the stars to navigate
The clouds need but the wind or slowly dissipate
Each drop that falls is unlike the rest
And each drop that falls must face its own test
But each drop still falls from clouds in the west
And each drop will splash to combine with the rest
The sun warms the water and shines down blindingly
Shadows fly by as the clouds skim the sea
Picking up what they lost to replenish their thirst
And clashing with others to do their very worst
Out of the tempest the fortunate ones flee
With the coast in their sights they pick up new speed
The mountains to greet them and rivers to overflow
Lightning snaps upward trying vainly to slow
Each drop that rises is unlike the rest
And each drop that rises must face its own test
But each drop still rises from oceans in the west
And each drop dissolves to combine with the rest
Landfall could break them, shake their growing confidence
Turning proud cumulonimbus into lazy fog over fens
But the strong will rise above to follow with the wind
Over flat plains of wheat and tall grasses that bend
To the skyscraping towers warm and dry inside
Standing tall and defiant without ambition or pride
Interrupting the race, oblivious to them
But the rain never stops, 'round the world and back again
Each drop that falls is unlike the rest
And each drop that falls must face its own test
But each drop still falls from clouds in the west
And each drop will splash to combine with the rest
