Updates for 2005

DECEMBER 11th 2005 - MUSIC UPDATE: Rush's "R30" Live DVD set is out! I won't spoil it for you if you haven't seen it yet, but it is better than RIR, and it is sooo cool to see them play Xanadu and Red Barchetta again :) As for our humble band, we are on break for the Christmas holidays. We are going to be getting back to practicing in early January. And we hope to have a new mixer by then to replace the 20 year-old Roland 12 channel mixer we had been using until it blew up after I moved it 25' across the room. I shoulda known... I hope Santa is good to you all, and cya next year ;)

DECEMBER 6th 2005 - WEBSITE UPDATE: Raven's Garage is 10 years old! Man, how time flies! It was 10 years ago this month that I created Raven's Garage. Though the site has been fairly quiet for the past few years (and the domain was almost sold once) it has continued to grow and evolve into what I hope is a fairly decent resource for all things technical related to BGC and ADP. I hope to be able to get back to updating the site in the new year after I've removed a couple of long-standing monkey's from my back and make it into the website I originally envisioned. Stay tuned...

NOVEMBER 14th 2005 - MUSIC UPDATE: "A once in a lifetime thing" - A drum store in Toronto called Just Drums put on a very cool clinic today. Lorne Wheaton, drum technician for Neil Peart (drummer for Rush) was at Just drums today along with Neil's 30th Anniversary drumkit. Scott and I took the day off and drove down to Toronto to hear Lorne talk about the drumkit and about working for Neil. Scott and I both snapped a few pics (click on the thumbnails for bigger pics) and got Lorne's autograph. It was a cool trip and a very inspiring once in a lifetime opportunity.

NOVEMBER 12th 2005 - MUSIC UPDATE: While Scott and I wait for Terry to return from a work-related trip to Florida I have been busy recording and mixing a new song with the "Rush Remix Project". Have a listen to the latest effort - Subdivisions

OCTOBER 19th 2005 - MUSIC UPDATE: Went to see Judas Priest last Saturday night. What an amazing show! It definitely left an impression on me. Good to see Rob Halford back singing with the band... Our own band has had a short break but got back to it last Sunday. Worked on "Vital Signs"and dabbled with some original riffs and ideas that Terry had kickin about. He dropped by a couple of CDs the other night with tons more material so we may get to work on recording our own stuff soon... I've been having a lot of fun recording Rush covers with a group of guys that hang out on the Counterparts Rush message board. A drummer posted an MP3 of himself playing drums along with Tom Sawyer so I downloaded his drum track, pasted it into GarageBand and then recorded my bass, synth and vocals and posted the final product on the message board. We had so much fun with it that it's turned into the unofficial "Remix Project" and several people are adding their various instrumental parts. With lots of Rush tunes to pick from it should keep us all busy through the fall and sharpen the recording skills for an original project...

SEPTEMBER 5th 2005 - MUSIC UPDATE: After a year plus of recording ourselves playing Rush covers our recording project has been put on hold for a while. Time to get back to what we really enjoy doing- learning new songs! But there has also been talk of working on originals and we have lots of ideas on computer and in my box of old tapes, so ya never know what might show up next... Spirit of Radio has been added to our list of MP3s.

AUGUST 10th 2005 - MUSIC UPDATE: Haven't got the final version of Spirit of Radio done yet so here's a link to the current version to hear what we've been up to. It is a rough version so mind the bumps! Hopefully we'll have the final version this coming Sunday.

JULY 29th 2005 - MUSIC UPDATE: Been a while since the last update but here's the scoop; Scott has returned from his vacation, but our weekly Sunday practices have been few and far between due to family committments and a weeklong vacation by myself. But we managed to squeak in a Sunday recording session to work on "Spirit Of Radio" and the results are very encouraging. This Sunday (July 31st) we should be able to wrap up Spirit and move on to our next song- YYZ... check back here after the weekend for the finished version of Spirit!

JUNE 4th 2005 - MUSIC UPDATE: Scott is on vacation out west so the band is taking a break. But Terry and I get new gear!
