Started April 2006 - Completed Aug 13/08 - FINAL mix version 9b - This song was started
way back in April of 2006. Kirk had done his usual excellent job with the drums, and soon after Pete recorded a great guitar track (with a blistering
solo), and then Ben put down an incredible bass track (I have listened to his bass track by itself and I still can't figure that solo section out),
but when I added my vocal track it just seemed to suck the life out of the song and I couldn't figure out why. So it sat for many months in
the "Work In Progress" folder. Recently I bought a new Audio Technica AT2020 microphone for recording vocals, and I was so pleased with
the clarity that I hauled Freewill out of the "work in progress" folder and started working on a new vocal track. With the new mic I found I was able to hear
myself much more clearly and I could really concentrate on the phrasing, the pitch of each note, and on the timing. With the sloppy timing of
the old vocal track the song sounded like it was dragging and lifeless even though the guitar, bass and drums sounded great. To my ears, the
new vocal track really makes a difference because the timing is much better, the phrasing is closer to the original, and the pitch, especially
in the high parts after the solo, is much improved. If anyone is reading this and wondering how they can improve their own vocal tracks for around $150.00 I
strongly recommend giving the Audio Technica AT2020 a look, and a listen. NOTE: Aug 13/08 - Tweaked the mix a little to reduce the red-hot level and smooth out the vocals
with a little limiting. I am definitely DONE! For now...

![]() Completed June 2006 - As Pete puts it in his bio, "making the impossible possible". A total of 18 tracks, a half-dozen percussion sounds, 9 guitar tracks,
5 synth tracks (including some authentic sounding MiniMoog tracks using new software), 2 bass versions, and 10 rough mixes. But IMHO it was
all worth it. Kirk really shines on this song, Pete's solo is absolutely smokin', and Ben digs in solid with a new Roscoe bass. And this song really
pushed me in terms of mixing. I have all of the raw audio files and settings backed up to a DVD because I wouldn't want to have to rebuild this
one from scratch!

![]() Completed early Jan 2006 - Just before we did YYZ we re-recorded Tom Sawyer and Limelight and I finally got to use Logic Express. And
what a difference it made! The production was much cleaner and punchier. And Pete laid down some doubled guitar
tracks that really gave Tom Sawyer it's authentic sound. What we learned from the re-recording of Tom Sawyer and
Limelight we brought to YYZ, and with Ben's amazing bass work and some fun with sampled whip cracks, this
song really cranked the project up another notch.

![]() Completed early November 2005 - By this time the core group of Pete, Ben, Kirk and myself had formed, another transition of sorts was
taking place. I had just installed Logic Express on my PowerBook and was about to move away from Garageband
to Logic when my hard drive crashed! All of the raw tracks we had done for all of the songs we had worked on
so far were recovered-- except for Subdivisions. I lost my bass, synth and vocal tracks. I had made a 2-track mix
of the song before the HD crashed so we still get to hear the fruits of our labours, but I still hope to re-do all of my
tracks (including the bass with my new Rickenfaker) and then remix the song again using Logic Express to bring out some of the high-end clarity that
was missing from using GarageBand. Still, Subdivisions made us realize that we could get really close to
the production sound of the original song.

![]() ![]() Re-recording completed late Feb 2006 - Remixed Feb 10 2007 - Once we realized we had something interesting happening we
re-recorded Limelight with a focus on better quality sound and production with Kirk re-doing his drum tracks, Pete on Guitar, Ben on bass, and
me (Andy) re-doing the vocals and synths. In Feb 2007 I recorded a bass track with my new Ibanez bass and remixed the song again, replacing
the cheesy synths with some authentic-sounding Moog sounds from my Minimonsta program. June 2008: Whenever I listen to Limelight in the car
I would always hear a harmonic vocal part during the ending chorus that wasn't there. Just for shiggles, I recorded the harmonic vocal part. Check
out "Limelight ALT VOX" in the MP3 links below.

![]() ![]() Re-recording completed early Feb 2006 - As with Limelight, when the project had evolved a bit more
(and I'd upgraded my recording software) we re-recorded Tom Sawyer with Pete on Guitar, Ben on bass, and Kirk and I re-recorded
our tracks as well.

![]() ![]() Completed mid-October 2005 - Vital Signs was tricky. The song is based around a looping synth sequence but there was no way for all of us to sync
to the sequence because Kirk had recorded his drums while listening to the song. Ideally we would have all recorded
to a click track that could be synced to a sequencer but that wasn't possible. The next best thing? Turn the sequence into
a sample loop and make the loop it fit the drum track! Easier said than done, but with a little computer magic it
got done... There are 2 versions of the song, with Justin and myself both submitting bass tracks.

![]() ![]() Original Version - Shortly after Kirk posted his drum clip for Tom Sawyer he posted a clip of him playing drums along with Limelight. As with
Tom Sawyer I downloaded Kirk's drum clip, imported the drums into GarageBand and added some synth, vocals and bass. Jay and Paul
added their guitar tracks shortly after. Limelight was later re-recorded with Pete on Guitar and Ben on bass.

![]() ![]() Original Version - This is the song that started it all. There were two versions of Tom Sawyer. The original version was inspired by Kirk posting a rough audio clip of him playing
his drums along with the song. I was inspired by Kirk's drumming and downloaded his drum clip, imported the drums into GarageBand
(audio program) and then added some synth, vocals and bass. Jay, Paul amd Justin added their tracks and the Rush Remix Project
was born. Later, when the project had evolved a bit more (and I'd upgraded my recording software) we re-recorded Tom Sawyer with
Pete on Guitar and Ben on bass.
